In fixed wireless systems, subscribers do not change their locations with time. Knowing the distribution of subscribers in the cell area, intelligent channel assignment algorithms can be designed to improve the carrier to interference ratio (C/I) in the system. In this paper, the performance of a new reverse channel reverse tiering (RCRT) assignment algorithm for fixed wireless communication systems with power control is investigated. In this algorithm a reverse channel assignment is used. Moreover, the same frequency channel is used by subscribers near to the base station in one cell and far from the base station in the co-channel cell, and vice-versa. The performance of the new algorithm is compared with two conventional algorithms for channel assignments. A simulation study was performed on the three algorithms and the improvement in C/I is reported for two cases of analog cellular system and a digital TDMA cellular system
