The mountaineer's rescue system in Taiwan

The safety of mountain climbing has been deeply concerned by the public in Taiwan. To assure the safety of the climbers, we have developed the mountaineers' rescue system (MRS). This paper describes the functions of the MRS, which contains the mountaineer's radio (MR) unit, the rescue's search (RS) unit and the base station (BS). The construction and the operating process of the MRS are also presented in detail. Currently, fifty-two base stations have been constructed at preselected places of mountain areas all over Taiwan (Fig.1). The system will be put in full operation soon.
