Bimorprous distributed transducer for the detection of temperatu he threshold

Abstract: A family of fiber optic sensors adaptable to alarm systems for temperature (fire), pressure, elongation (presence detection) and H, gases is presented. The transducer principle is based on the microbending of an optical fiber by means of an ap propriate periodical metallic structure. The longitutinal loss distribution produced by the action of a physical or chemical parameter is measured by a reflectometry technique. The spatial resolution is of the order of 10 m and the length of the sensor, which is the length of the fiber, can be several km.
