For examining eco-design of pumps, the innovations of the pumps were evaluated by using LCA technology. In consequence, environmental loads of material productions were quite high in the production phase. The total weights and the environmental loads of the pumps could be effectively decreased by the adoption of material alternation of the main parts and the higher rotational speed of motors. In the life cycle of the pumps, there is quite a high share of the total environmental loads because of their long life and the machines' high power consumption. HzFree pump, EBARA's advanced model, could effectively decrease energy consumption and CO2 emission to one fifth those of MS type, the most conventional pump among EBARA's products, in production phase and could achieve 20% reduction of those in use phase. Actual replacement of the existing pumps with HzFree pumps at Fujisawa plant, 36% of electricity saving could be achieved
