This paper presents central algorithms to actively and accurately suppress structural deflection of a composite beam utilizing a distributed piezofilm actuator and sensor. A hybrid control algorithm that combines the constant-amplitude controller and constant-gain controller is proposed to overcome practical drawbacks associated with inevitable time delay of hardware systems. The proposed controller is established on the basis of the velocity signals and also the oscillation magnitudes of the structure. Experimental implementations are undertaken in order to demonstrate superior control efficiencies of the proposed control algorithm. Simultaneous controllability of various vibrational modes under random excitation is also experimentally verified through frequency responses of the composite beam.
