A multiregime microscopic traffic simulation approach has been formulated featuring realistic and comprehensive car-following and lane changing logic. The simulation logic and program was extensively tested and validated by real-world microscopic data sets using different validation procedures. The multiregime simulation (MRS) results clearly demonstrate the efficiency and validity of the proposed models for a broad range of traffic scenarios. The test and validation results indicate that the model has the fidelity and details required for modeling ITS technologies
