The authors have developed new apparatus capable of detecting contamination on the insulators of overhead power transmission lines. The apparatus consists of multiple leakage current detectors with Peltier modules and features very compact size and light weight. Accumulated contaminants can be measured automatically and continuously without wiping them. The apparatus has demonstrated excellent performance in both laboratory and field tests
