A single-chip MPEG2 MP@ML video encoder LSI including wide search range motion estimation (H+/-288, V+/-96) and many functions for consumer use

An MPEG2 MP@ML video encoder LSI has been developed integrating motion estimation (with maximum search area of +/-288 horizontal and +/-96 vertical pixels) and many functions for consumer application use. Two algorithms are used for motion estimation and low power consumption is achieved by using special design methodology (Ogura et al. 1998). In this paper, the system architecture is described.
