In this paper, we introduce main service characteristics and overall architecture of the Korean HDTV broadcasting system being developed in order to provide high quality TV programs and data services to large numbers of people via Koreasat. Then, we describe the major functions of the HDTV broadcast chain and present design specifications and implementation of the system
