Describes a video-based, contact-free image processing system for the determination of the point of fixation. Two steps are essential for this purpose: determination of both the 3-D eye position (eye tracking) and the gaze function (gaze tracking). The gaze camera changes its orientation to follow the movement of the head and keeps the centre of the eye being always at its optical axis. A novel algorithm (head-fixed coordinate transformation) compensates influences of both the head movement and the pose change of the gaze camera on the gaze function and determines the point of fixation in 3-D space
