Summary form only given. The characteristics of shielded transmission lines for microwave and millimetre-wave integrated circuits have been investigated in the past. However, in spite of numerous attempts a rigorous theory is not fairly well established. This article presents a rigorous analysis applied to shielded transmission lines on anisotropic substrates. The analysis is based on the method of the Riemann-Hilbert problem in order to obtain determinant equations for the propagation constants and electromagnetic field components. The analytical regularisation procedure reduces the initial boundary value problem to the set of linear algebraic equations of the second kind. The numerical results obtained show that this method allows one to construct efficient numerical algorithms. In the Riemann-Hilbert problem the zero metallization thickness condition is used, therefore the modified Fourier method for calculation of the characteristics of transmission lines with nonzero thickness is suggested. A comparison of the numerical results obtained by both methods is presented
