Numerical simulations of the effect of record field pulse length on medium coercivity at finite temperatures

Thin film media under consideration for high density recording in the range of 5 Gbit/in/sup 2/ and beyond will utilize extremely small grains in order to achieve acceptable signal-to-noise ratio limits. Numerical simulations of the reversal process including thermal fluctuations are utilized to determine medium coercivity versus field duration. Typically media with grain diameter 10 nm will have a 23% decrease in coercivity over a 1-100 nsec range.
