The effect of dead time delays on the efficiency of a constant frequency, 1 MHz low voltage, synchronous buck power converter is investigated. The overall efficiency is calculated as a function of the load current and the switching frequency with the dead time as a parameter. It was calculated, and subsequently experimentally verified, that the efficiency can be improved by over 3.5% by eliminating unnecessary body diode conduction
