Performance Evaluation Of Optical Systems In The Presence Of Nonlinear Kerr Effect

In the last years several works have shown the possibility to transmit high bit rate signals over very long distances, using both conventional and soliton systems. Since in such systems the product between the distance and the power results high, fiber nonlinearities arc present also in the case of propagation of conventional signals. After the experimental demonstration of trasmissions over very long distances, the study of the system performance, in the presence of the fiber nonlinearities, appears very important in order to find the best way to exploit the fiber capacity.
