Digital Television will significantly impact our lives in the next century. This paper overviews the current status of digital television broadcast development worldwide, and discusses recent progress in digital television system technology. Multi-format and data compression issues are also discussed. Continuing, some requirements for advanced VLSI technology, which play key roles in digital television systems, are presented. Finally, future issues are considered.
