In this paper, we investigate the impact of different system parameters, such as traffic smoothing, buffer dimensioning and synchronization mechanisms on the performance of an ATM multiplexer supporting VBR MPEG-2 video sources. The effect of these system parameters is evaluated in terms of the statistical multiplexing gain and QoS guarantees provided to the video application
