A rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) algorithm useful for studying the radiation and scattering from three-dimensional (3-D) inhomogeneous objects is developed. A spherical electromagnetic (EM) state variable (SV) form of Maxwell's equations is presented. The RCWA method is used to numerically study EM dipole radiation within and exterior to an inhomogeneous spherical shell
