A combined experimental and analytical approach was used to understand the vibrational behavior of the head, as a framework to use vibrational characteristics to monitor increases in intracranial pressure. Experimental modal analysis showed the damping and mass loading effects of intracranial and extracranial tissues on resonant behavior of the skull. Experimentally measured natural frequencies and modal shapes from dry skulls have been used to develop and evaluate a geometrically detailed finite element model of the ovine head
