The paper presents a new method, midprediction (MIDP) error filter, for the detection of the glottal closing instants (GCIs) in vowel speech signals. The performance of midprediction error filter in the detection of GCIs has been compared with the linear prediction (LP) error filter and two-sided prediction (TP) error filter. The MIDP error filter is observed to have higher gain at high frequencies compared to the LP error filter and the TP error filter. This helps in better performance of MIDP error filter in the detection of GCIs. Because of the zero phase response of the MIDP error filter, there will be no loss of timing information in the detection of the GCIs
