Call admission control (CAC) in a multipoint-to-multipoint (multiple-source, multiple-destination) environment is discussed. We present a new CAC algorithm which combines admissions from all sources to maximize the performance. Firstly, we consider point-to-multipoint CAC, which is designed to maintain fairness, efficiency and low complexity. Then we extend it to multipoint-to-multipoint CAC. By introducing two new mechanisms which we call “partial selection” and “negative message sending mechanism”, our approach is made robust enough to avoid a deadlock. We also discuss the issues of a trade-off between delay performance and resource utilization
