Planning a company program for technical documentation

This paper presents a process for planning a company's overall approach to technical documentation. A hierarchical “document tree” is used which guides the company to set policies, develop standards, write procedures, and produce drawings and manuals in a coordinated fashion. Using this system, each item that is produced becomes part of an accumulating body of documentation that improves the efficiency of management, production, and contract fulfillment. The program for technical documentation will support the company's quality assurance program.
