A step-up converter operated in an average current control mode is proposed to feed higher voltage to an inverter of an electric vehicle. A circuit configuration of the proposed converter is based on an interleaved structure to increase the amplitude of output voltage rather than increasing the number of battery stacks or adapting a transformer having higher turn-ratio. The proposed converter has three kinds of control modes; independent parallel duty mode, independent duty mode, and parallel duty mode. Each control mode is automatically changed according to the load condition. This control method shows good performance when an input voltage source has a limitation for supplying energy like a battery source in an electric vehicle. To verify the validity of the proposed converter and its control method, we carry out a computer-aided simulation.
