The recent cuts being made in IT budgets across the globe can be attributed to any number of modern day crises. For instance, organizations are still recovering from the recession almost 5 years later, and IT infrastructures have been having to deal with reduced budgets and still expected to deliver the service that clients are accustomed to. Addressing the challenges presented in the modern day data enter has also been a serious, especially in regard to the rising energy cost the global warming issue. This paper looks at the literature behind virtualization and mainly virtual desktop infrastructure as the solution to these issues.
