Scarce programs: From power engineering and electromagnetics to telecommunications and instrumentation, specialized programs are in short supply

Technical managers in industry in the united States seeking to hire engineers who are well-versed in six disciplines may have fewer graduates to choose from than they would like. For different reasons, each of these disciplines - power engineering, electromagnetics, instrumentation, computer networking in telecommunications, manufacturing engineering, and the application of engineering to public policymaking - fails to meet industry demands for qualified engineers. The shortage is reflected in many statements made by industry managers in recent meetings, panel discussions, and symposia.
