Computers. II. Minis and mainframes

The changes affect array processors, multiprocessors, and microprogramming that exploit the denser, faster, and cheaper logic and memory circuits provided by LSI. Examples of the influence of LSI are two new supercomputers - the Cyber 205 from the Control Data Corp. and the Burroughs BSP - along with five new mainframes verging on super power: the FPS-164 from Data Point; the Hitachi AS/9000, introduced in the U.S. by National Advanced Systems; the HEP (heterogenous element processor), made by Denelcor; the IBM 3081; and the Amdahl 5860. (The BSP was canceled after this was written, but it is discussed for purposes of comparison.)
