Citizens band radio, or “CB” as it is usually called, has risen from an obscure hobby to a public mania in just the past few years - a popularity traceable (in part) to the gasoline shortage, reduced speed limits, and the widely publicized independent truckers' strike of 1973-1974. Even hit tunes written in the idiom of diesel fumes, truck stops, and lonely highways have helped spread the CB mystique (see below).
