Power: Electrical load management: The British experience: Reduced utility rates and heaters with storage have been increasing winter off-peak loads

Britain's two decades of success with load management — techniques to smooth out the peaks and valleys in consumer use of electricity — can benefit other parts of the world where there is uneconomical use of energy. Using energy storage on the customer's premises for the heating of space and water, along with rates that encourage off-peak use of electricity, the British have eliminated peak power demand on winter mornings and increased the use of electricity at night, when the demand is low.
