When Spectrum launched the Amazing Micro-Mouse Maze Contest in May 1977, it scarcely anticipated the deluge of entries (some 6000 to date). Thus far, three preliminary time trials have been held, during which several contenders entered the maze and failed to negotiate it or were scratched prior to post time. Evidently the design and construction of an intelligent mouse have proved less trivial than some had thought.
