This Events & Sightings installment covers a range of recent events focusing on the history of computing. Luanne Johnson gives a brief obituary of Lawrence A. (Larry) Welke, who in the mid-1960s became the world's first publisher dedicated to the newborn software industry and was dubbed by early software industry leaders "the father of the software industry." Akihiko Yamada also recaps the work of the National Museum of Nature and Science (NMHS), IEEE, Japanese academic societies, and governmental organizations to recognize and commemorate important historical artifacts as part of Japan's technological heritage.
