This study presents a novel simulated annealing (SA) algorithm for the optimisation of an electrical machine. Firstly, the proposed SA algorithm is validated on five standard benchmark mathematical functions. Furthermore, the SA algorithm will be employed for the optimisation of a brushless synchronous motor. The optimised topology of the motor will be analysed numerically and the results will be validated experimentally. The obtained performances show that the proposed SA algorithm outperforms other algorithms described in the scientific literature.
