Stephen W. Director and Gary D. Hatchel received the W. R. G. Baker Award at the IEEE Awards Reception in New York on April 23, 1979. The award is made by the IEEE Board of Directors on the recommendation of the Prize Papers Committee and the Awards Board for the most outstanding paper in the TRANSACTIONS and JOURNALS of the Groups and Societies or in the Proceedings of IEEE published during the period July 1 through June 30. Their paper on “A Simplicial Approximation Approach to Design Centering, ” IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems, July 1977 was nominated by our Society's Paper Award Committee, chaired by Professor S. R. Parker, to compete with the entries from the other Transactions, Journals, and Proceedings of IEEE. The award consists of a certificate and one thousand dollars.
