This paper studies the application of microwave transmission lines as wireless distributed sensors. Wireless interrogation of the transmission line was achieved based on the principle of backscattering. A normalizing scheme was developed to extract the signal reflected by the transmission line from the background clutter. Time correlation analysis was applied to determine the arrival time of the reflection. The principle of operation, the experiment setup, and the results are discussed.
