Some predictive encoding schemes are applied to the progressive reconstruction of news photos stored in screened form. Experimental results obtained on pictures received on the analog telephoto channel by means of a suitable electronic system are discussed. A switched predictor, which takes into account the RMS prediction error resulting from previous predictions to carry out the choice, is shown to perform significantly better than some classical prediction schemes.
