A Newton-type algorithm for the control of power flow in electrical power networks

This paper addresses the issue of controllable branch models suitable for assessing the steady state response of FACTS devices on a network wide basis. Generalised nodal admittance models are presented for series compensators, phase shifters, interphase power controllers and unified power flow controllers. A Newton-Raphson load flow program has been developed which includes comprehensive control facilities and yet exhibits very strong convergence characteristics. Test results are presented which demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed models.
