The false acceptance probability for combined burst synchronization and error detection systems using cyclic redundancy check (CRC) codes is readily derived, with no concern to a recovering process, based on the fact that false acceptance occurs when a code word exists in a time window in the presence of channel errors. The new derivation provides an exact expression for the probability. Performance for an (105, 90) coset code is presented using the derived result
