This paper discusses the transmission performance of space/path diversity (SPD) for two delay profile models in microcellular environments. First, the delay profiles and the number of effective paths determined from measurements in indoor and urban areas are addressed. The bit error rate characteristics of SPD for both exponential delay profile model and the power function delay profile model are clarified through a theoretical analysis. Furthermore, we propose a new method to evaluate the diversity effect of SPD from the viewpoint of the number of diversity branches in the space axis and the time window width of the RAKE receiver in the time axis for normalized delay spread
