A Sierpinski carpet fractal patterned rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (SCFRDRA) with microstrip line feed arrangement is presented in this paper. A solid rectangular dielectric resonator mounted on a vertical ground plane edge with a micro strip line feed monopole arrangement reduces the total antenna volume as compared with horizontal ground plane. In addition, the antenna weight is also reduced significantly by the removal of materials in Sierpinski carpet fractal pattern. An impedance bandwidth of 87.86 % is obtained with similar radiation pattern throughout the band. The average peak gain within the band is about 4.6 dBi.
