We introduce an example of a public ATM network configuration to realize a high-speed transport network, and we consider the public ATM network for the accommodation of high-speed multimedia communication services. We also describe an experience of the ATM network operation. The public ATM switching system used is the TDX-ATM, one of the TDX switching system family developed by ETRI. For real service provision and utilization, we apply the Internet service, i.e. World Wide Web (WWW) as a multimedia communication service. Our public ATM network includes a multimedia service platform that can easily support service routing and service guidance with a connection broker functionality as a principle B-ISDN network component. We verify the capability of the public ATM network in an SVC connection to measure the data transmission speed between the Ethernet and the ATM. We focus on the TCP parameter setting reported in the other documents to get the highest transmission speed on the TCP/IP over ATM
