The authors compare frequency responses of direct and cascade realizations of FIR (finite impulse response) bandpass filters with fixed-point coefficients. The direct realization has better frequency response (under coefficient quantization) than the cascade realization if the transition bands are narrow. Usually, direct realization performs well in passbands and cascade performs well in stopbands
