This paper presents a study for demonstrating the capability of photovoltaic systems (PV System) in enhancing the damping of the inter-area oscillations in a smart grid network. In this context, investigations are conducted on a single-machine infinite bus (SMIB) system. PV-based stabilizer are designed for enhancing power system dynamic stability. The damping action is achieved through the independent control of real power flow from the stabilizer and voltage at a point of common coupling between the stabilizer and the grid system. The designing of the controller is based on classical frequency response technique. The results obtained validate the effectiveness of the PV System in damping the inter-area oscillations and demonstrated through time-domain simulation.
