This paper deals the methodology to obtain damping of sustained oscillation in the power system with the help of Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC). The linear model of the UPFC is taken and the tuning of the controllable parameters is done with the help of Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm (RCGA). The UPFC is installed in Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) for the analysis of performance of the power system and is simulated for three phase fault using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The relation between the optimization of controller parameters with both conventional method and RCGA method have been analyzed and compared. Magnificent improvement in robust damping has been observed with RCGA implementation.
