Although many fundamental issues have been studied in ad hoc wireless network, it is still in the development phase due to their design complexity. Therefore, a large research space still remains open for further exploration. Among the lot of challenges in ad hoc wireless networks, designing efficient rate based transport protocols for multihop ad hoc wireless networks get significant importance due to the use of state-of-the-art technology in its design. While there has been some research on rate based transport protocols for ad hoc wireless networks there are still many unsolved problems in this domain. This paper presents a collection of design choices and challenges that are needed to be tackled in the rate based transport protocols.
