We demonstrate a carefully designed top metal grating distributed feedback quantum cascade laser emitting at λ ~ 7.6 μm. Room temperature continuous-wave singlemode operation with 30-dB sidemode suppression ratio and 40-mW output power is achieved. Such a simple and high-efficiency approach is presented as an alternative to the currently complicated buried grating technology in the long-wave infrared range.
