Virtualization technologies enable high utilization rate of heterogeneous hardware and consolidation of rich services. The supporting network infrastructure drives the evolution of network virtualization technologies. This paper presents a many-core processor based network virtualization approach using fast messaging network. The fast messaging network is used to transfer packet descriptors among physical network interfaces and processor cores with very minor extra cost. It improves overall throughput by avoiding the pipeline stalls caused by network interface interrupts. This paper gives the implementation and benchmark results. The results show this approach improves network throughput solidly, mitigates latency and jitter significantly.
