The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has developed new protocol named as IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) for use in lossy environments to connect resource limited wireless nodes. RPL organize network as acyclic oriented graphs named DODAG and by doing this it provide transfer of messages from nodes to DODAG root through most reliable and fastest route. In this paper authors introduce main characteristics and review RPL protocol to be applied in wireless sensor networks.
