For the purpose of WSN (Wireless Sensor Networks) performance improvement, mobile sinks were considered, which are a kind of special nodes in charge of data collection in WSN. Mobility of sinks can improve the performance of whole system, such as connectedness, sense coverage, and energy efficient. An effective structure regular hexagonal grid plot is chosen, which is suitable for improving connectedness and sense coverage. A route planning for mobile sinks is proposed by applying a well designed ant colony optimization algorithms. Finally, the advantages and effectiveness of mobility-based sinks in WSN are illustrated by an example.
