A high current proton linear accelerator has been designed and is at the moment under construction for the ESSBilbao project. The current status of the accelerator and the projected user facilities will be presented in this contribution. In particular, the proton irradiation laboratory intended for space radiation testing of electronic components and systems will be described in more detail.
