I&M in the 21st century engineering curriculum-a direction for change

This paper addresses the issue of the appropriate treatment and placement of both measurement theory and practical instrumentation matters within the contemporary engineering curriculum. From the nature of modern I & M practice and the realities of competition for curriculum space in any modern engineering degree, it is concluded (i) that I & M should no longer be treated primarily as a "basic" discipline which is presented in the early years of the course; but rather (ii) that in the 21st century I & M matters should be treated primarily at an advanced level.
