A new algorithm which incorporates standard median filtering is proposed for effectively removing impulsive noise in image processing. This computationally efficient approach first classifies input pixels and then performs a median filtering process. Simulation results show that the new scheme, regardless of high or low SNR, displays a superior mean square error (MSE) over standard median filters
