The eyes of the fly have been extensively studied at both the structural and the cellular level. Up to the present, however, this data has not been utilized to develop a comprehensive model of its eye. With the presentation of a model for the sensory portion of the fly's eye, this paper describes some initial steps towards the development of a comprehensive model. The effectiveness of the model is addressed through a comparison of its performance with that found in experimental data
